As the Wilmington Symphonic Winds begins our 11th season, we are proud to present UNBROKEN, a program that celebrates gratitude, resilience, and transformation through music.
We open with Alfred Reed’s Alleluia! Laudamus Te, a radiant outpouring of thanks that honors both WSW’s journey and the legacy of leadership that has shaped who we are today. David Maslanka’s Golden Light follows, a kaleidoscope of color and rhythm inspired by sunlight filtering through trees. The first half concludes with Randall Standridge’s unBroken, a deeply personal work that explores mental health and the strength found in shared experience.
After intermission, Omar Thomas’s Of Our New Day Begun moves from grief to bold collective hope, written in response to the Emanuel AME Church tragedy. We balance this intensity with Percy Grainger’s lively Molly on the Shore, reminding us that joy, too, is an act of creation. We close with John Mackey’s The Soul Has Many Motions—a complete suite that embodies the spirit of change and transformation.
Admission to this concert is FREE! We will happily accept donations to support future programming. Tickets may be obtained 1) in advance through the Kenan website using the QR code or 2) on the day of the event at UNCW Kenan Auditorium Box Office, 515 Wagoner Drive in Wilmington, beginning at 3:30 pm.
