This presentation will address knowledge of child centered play therapy and the Gender Affirming Model and how play therapists can use their clinical skills in working with the lgbt+ youth. We will incorporate the therapeutic powers of play by listing how children can use their personal strengths, learn facilitate communication, foster emotional wellness (all tenets of CCPT) and apply it to the LGBT+ population.
Learning Objectives:
1. List the key tenets of child centered play therapy and the Gender Affirming Model
2. Discuss how CCPT provides a safe and accepting space for LGBTQ+ youth to explore their identities
3. Describe the role of the affirming and culturally aware play therapist in CCPT

Ragan is a Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker, Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor™ and Certified Sex Therapist through ASSECT. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Social Work from Wichita State University. She also has a Master’s in Education from Newman University. She is certified in Trauma-Focused CBT and EMDR (through EMDRIA) and is currently a Consultant in Training. She has served on the Ks Board National Association of Social Workers, Kansas Association for School Social Workers, and is past president of KS Branch for the Association for Play Therapy. She has taught at several universities at the undergraduate and graduate level. Ragan has been a social worker for 25 years and worked in foster care, adoptions, drug and alcohol counseling, school social work, medical and psychiatric social work, and is currently in private practice. Ragan is the author of two chapters in the " Transformative Expressions in Play Therapy: Working with LGBTQ+ Clients" textbook. She specializes in neurodivergence and the LGBT+ community.
