"As in nature, energy must be protected and used efficiently. This includes our own energy, where we must recharge when we are depleted.” (Reconnection Vision, 2023, pg 67)
During this evening we will share our connection with the Land, self, and each other through a mindful walk by the Water led by Jennifer Mierau, an alumni of the Yukon First Nation Climate Action Fellowship. Jennifer will guide us through practices that draw on the teachings of the Reconnection Vision. Attendees will be invited to bring their whole selves to this evening and embody practices that reconnect us to the Land and the wider web of our relationships to one another.
Care for the Creek is all about taking action by learning about Chasàn Chuà’s cultural and ecological importance, connecting with the creek, and undoing the harm caused by people and invasive plants to these special landscapes. Located on the traditional territories of the Ta’an Kwäch’än Council and Kwanlin Dün First Nation, Chasàn Chuà is the heart of a wildlife corridor that passes through the city of Whitehorse.
Who can attend: Everyone is welcome - adults, kids, and families. Register for reminders or feel free to drop-in!
What to bring: Please dress appropriately for being outside. We recommend bringing layers, water-resistant walking shoes, mosquito repellent, sunscreen, and a water bottle.
Location: We’ll meet at the blue pumphouse behind Yukon University. From Range Road turn at the sign for Yukon University, and after 600 meters turn left onto an unnamed gravel road. Continue for 600 meters and park near the blue pumphouse.
About Jennifer: Jennifer Mierau is a Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in citizen, an alumni of the Yukon First Nations Climate Action Fellowship, and one of the creators of the Reconnection Vision: A Pathway for Change from the Children of Tomorrow. In 2020, the Fellows were tasked by Yukon First Nation Chiefs to develop the Yukon First Nations approach to climate action. Reconnection Vision is the Fellows' pathway for change, where Reconnection transforms the ways we live, learn, and work through being in good relationship with ourselves, each other, and the Land.
