Dàmäwtän (The Point)
Dàmäwtän (The Point), Whitehorse, Canada
Dàmäwtän (The Point) is where Chasàn Chùa meets the Yukon River; an area deeply shaped by its past as a municipal landfill from the 1940s to the 1970s, which displaced local First Nations and left lasting environmental harm. Join us for a hands-on evening led by Paula Gomez Villalba picking up litter, learning how to identify and remove invasive plants, and chatting about stories from the area. We’ll explore its past as a former dump and restoration efforts.
📅 Tues June 24th, 6-7:30pm
📍 Dàmäwtän (The Point) Parking Lot
Care for the Creek is all about taking action by learning about Chasàn Chuà’s cultural and ecological importance, connecting with the creek, and undoing the harm caused by people and invasive plants to these special landscapes. Located on the traditional territories of the Ta’an Kwäch’än Council and Kwanlin Dün First Nation, Chasàn Chuà is the heart of a wildlife corridor that passes through the city of Whitehorse.

About Paula: Paula Gomez Villalba has been CPAWS Yukon’s Communication Coordinator for the last four years, helping share stories from the land and water on many of our digital platforms. Paula holds a degree in Integrative Biology from the University of California, Berkeley. Her work in wildlife conservation and research has taken her to Brazil’s white-sand rainforests, Saskatchewan’s prairies in search of dancing grouse, and multiple captive breeding and monitoring programs across Canada. Paula loves sharing stories from the field. She believes the outdoors is for everyone and hopes to empower others to similarly protect and engage with nature.
