On September 11th the "LAKE FREDERICK VETERAN'S ASSOCIATION" will hold our annual ceremony to commemorate the events of September 11th, 2001, to honor the first responders who performed so magnificently on that day, and to conduct a Flag Retirement Ceremony for American flags that are old, damaged, or no longer serviceable. The American Legion passed a resolution in 1937 that states "The approved method of disposing of unserviceable flags has long been that they be destroyed by burning.”
Part of this ceremony will involve volunteers placing parts of the flag, the stripes, into a fire while Veteran Wayne Hardesty recites his copyrighted poem “I Am More Than Just Three Colors,” as he has done for several years now.
We are also asking for volunteers from the community—who at any time in their lives, served as first responder firefighters, law enforcement, or medical personnel—to represent the people in those professions who serve us every day. To date we have four volunteers: two from law enforcement and two from emergency medical professions, but no firefighters.
If you were ever in firefighting, please give us a call. We need your help.
