Our Northwoods Outdoor Center Swiftwater Safety and Rescue Skills Course brings fun and builds experience for River Safety. Sandra is an ACA Certified L4 Swiftwater Instructor trained by Jordan Taylor at the Paddlesports Institute.
We will have you fully considering prevention any time you’re by the water, assessing your own limits and skills, working as an integral team member, thinking through problems, and realizing how quickly decisions need to be made.
We’ll cover self-rescue, risk management, and river safety and give you plenty of time to practice skills you might need for your own safety and rescue situations for others. This hands-on all-in course will focus on quickly developing and implementing responses. Our focus will be for boaters on class II/III rivers but the class would be great for anyone considering boating or playing in moving water.
No previous whitewater boating experience is required but experience in moving water will help you feel more at ease with the exercises. We will spend most of our time on land and in the water but NOT in boats and some (less) time in boats. Starting with a safety class is a great way to start out with whitewater!
Course fee is $250 for the 2 day course.
If you’d like to participate and the fee is a problem, please let us know. We have scholarships available!
If you have a whitewater boat and gear, please bring it along to practice boat based rescue. We may have time for a quick run on the Wolf River at the end of the day on Saturday.

Because we are a small business and need to plan around registrations, our clinic fees and deposits aren't refundable. We can often offer a credit, less a $50 rescheduling fee per participant, for another similar clinic in the same season if space is available.
