On Wednesday, 29th October, we’re thrilled to invite you to our Dry Stone Walling Taster Day at the Mill Scar project, nestled above Goathland Station. Whether you’re curious about dry stone walling or would like to try something hands-on, this day promises to be enriching and unforgettable.
Our Mill Scar dry stone wall project is a labour of love, embarked upon to restore 500 metres of historic dry stone walls over three years. Sitting proudly adjacent to the moor tops, these walls are more than just boundaries; they are storytellers of the landscape’s heritage and beauty. Supported by funding from the North York Moors National Park through the 'Strategic Boundary Fund', this initiative is as much about preserving history as it is about sharing it with the wider public.
What’s Happening on the Day?
The open day is your chance to step into the shoes of traditional craftsmen and understand the significance of dry stone walls in our landscape. Here’s what to expect:
A hands-on workshop teaching the basics of dry stone walling, no prior experience required!
Insights into the ecological, cultural and practical value of dry stone walls.
Interaction with expert craftspeople leading the day.
