About the event

Callaghan Race XIV
Buckle up folks, the Callaghan Race is back for its 14th year, and it's going to be a banger.

With three awesome races packed into two incredible days expect to race hard, party even harder, and leave full of memories and with a sore face from all the smiling you've done.

Events:
- Upper Cheak Solo Time Trial (Class 4)
- Sea to Sky Whitewater Film Night
- Valhalla Squamish Class 3 Race (Class 3)
- The Classic Callaghan Creek Race (Class 5)

THE DETAILS:

RACE SECTIONS:

Upper Cheak:
- This is a solo time trial race. There will be safety situated at potential troublesome spots but you'll be more or less alone out there. If you want to race but don't feel comfortable going solo, you can have a safety buddy to go down with you and their time won't count.
- The falls. We'll see what the flows are as we near Friday but if you're comfortable with them, practice both right and left lines. For the race you can always put in below the falls but you will have a minute time penalty.
- Time stops at the take out gauge.

Valhalla Squamish Class 3 Race:
Still waiting on some more certainty with flows but we'll likely be racing the same section as last year, the CalCheak! That’s starting at the confluence of the Cheak and Callaghan and ending at the big eddy on river left just after a big wave train a couple hundred meters above the take out. If levels spike we'll be shifting gears and racing on the Upper Callaghan.
- This is a partner race. Time stops when the second racer gets to the end.

Callaghan Race:
- If flows are above .3 we'll likely be starting at the put-in. If they're below we'll likely be starting with the seal launch at the ledge. Racing all the way to the take out!
- This is a partner race. Time stops when the second racer gets to the end.

OVERARCHING RACE RULES:

- Boat length limit of 10 feet.
- Always prioritize safety. If another racer is having a bad time, stop and help them. We can work out getting you another race lap.
- Throwbags are mandatory for all racers.
- You have to have paddled the section you're racing at least once before.

CAMPING:

Camping at the Cal-Cheak North Campsite is included in everyone’s registration. It’s ours Friday and Saturday night. The gate will be locked for the few days coming up to the race, but you're welcome to walk in and set up a day or two before. You'll just have to pay separately for that.
There will be no actual sites so open your mind, share your space, and set up wherever! Gates will open at noon on Friday!

The party on Saturday will be taking place at the very North end of the camping area so if you’re not a big partier think about setting up further to the South.

COST:

$35 for the weekend. That includes two nights of camping, the film night, and all the Saturday evening festivities.
Plus $10 per race.
Cash preferred but e-transfers also work.

OTHER GOODIES:

- Aquabatics Calgary and YipYak will be at the Campground with booths set up showing off new gear and with demos!
- There will be a raffle for a PYRANHA KAYAK and more again this year so bring some extra cash!
- The notorious Callacalcutta will be back. Be ready.

That's it! If you have any other questions shoot us a note, but otherwise see you Friday!!!
