Ecologies workshop: photography as foraging
Be part of the exhibition Ecologies at the Shutter Room Gallery.
Two of the artists, Marcel Allen and Ellie Smith, are running a practical photography workshop on Saturday 14 June.
Participants will hear about the process behind some of the work in the show and then spend the morning foraging in the park and river areas adjacent to the gallery, making photographs and exploring the ‘ecology’ of the local area. A slide show of the images made during the workshop will be screened in one of the gallery windows as part of this exhibition.

Ecologies brings together a collection of Northland artists whose work explores different local environments and the ways in which we interact and relate to them.
Ecologies is a provocation. It looks to inspire personal and/or collective action. Through reflection on our own understanding of what is meant by ecologies and how we fit into our own environments it will illuminate what is meant by kaitiakitanga and taking care of the natural and man made environments and the organisms that inhabit them.
