On Tuesday, July 22 and Wednesday, July 23, your child entering third, fourth or fifth grade in fall, 2025, will go on an exciting journey through the forces of nature.
This class takes scientists on an exciting journey through the forces of nature! Over 2 hands-on days, students will create tornadoes in a bottle, erupt volcanoes, simulate tsunamis, and build their own weather instruments. Get ready to explore extreme weather, uncover the science behind storms, and become a meteorologist!
Because we are able to admit a limited number of students, you will be charged a deposit of $25 plus credit card processing fees upon registration. Your deposit will be refunded less credit card processing fees upon attendance at both days or class or notification of inability to attend sent to c3VtbWVybGVhcm5pbmdjbHVicyB8IHdlc3Rwb3J0bGlicmFyeSAhIG9yZw== or 203.291.4810 by 12:30 pm on Tuesday, July 15.
Summer Learning Clubs integrate math, literacy, and STEAM activities into a thematic approach for an extended period. Each week this complete immersive experience will cover a different topic over 2 days. Tuesdays will center around a blend of inquiry, design, research, writing and the arts. The Wednesday class builds on the deep work from Tuesday, and focuses on math, science and revision, testing and technology, with students creating a physical representation of their learning. This longer program will seamlessly blend traditional activities into a Project Based Learning experience and student-driven study.
Under a Project Based Learning model, students work together to solve challenging problems that are authentic, curriculum-based, and interdisciplinary. Following this format, learners decide how to approach a problem and what activities to pursue in their unique approaches. They gather information from various sources and plan, synthesize, analyze, and derive knowledge from it. Their learning is inherently valuable because it connects to something real and organic and promotes essential skills such as collaboration, revision, and reflection. In a culminating activity, students demonstrate their newly acquired knowledge and communicate this with others.
The Summer Learning Clubs are made possible by the continuing generosity of Roz and Bud Siegel.
