Joe Hogan Traditional Basket Exhibit

The Larches Finney presents an exhibit of traditional baskets by Joe Hogan.

Joe Hogan is a local master basketmaker whose works are celebrated worldwide. Joe employs traditional techniques to create artistic and sculptural works of art.

Joe Hogan has worked as a basketmaker since 1978 , growing his own willow near Loch na Fooey. He came to basketmaking when the indigenous Irish baskets were going out of use and was shown how to make a creel by his neighbour, Tommy Sheáin Tommy Joyce. He became very interested in learning and passing on these techniques. Over the last 20 years he has devoted most of his time to making artistic or sculptural baskets but the techniques used in this work come from the traditional baskets. His work is currently on display at the Irish Pavillion at Osaka in Japan.
