Improvisation is useful for more than just acting and public speaking - it develops teamwork, problem solving, communication, listening, and collaboration skills. It encourages us to go out and connect with others to solve a challenge, and to notice cues and emotions that can help us build social skills and empathy. When we improvise with others, we are working together to build something from nothing; We are forgetting about our own individual performance, instead considering how to best support each other by positively building on ideas to achieve a common goal.

After earning her BA in Theatre from Avila College in 1989, Ann Raab has been performing improv professionally since January of 1990 when she started with the main stage company of ComedySportz Kansas City. During that time, she represented the Kansas City troupe at the ComedySportz National tournament in Milwaukee, and performed numerous shows in Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Iowa. In 1993 she moved to Santa Barbara, CA and served as co-owner and operator of ComedySportz Santa Barbara and then co-founded the National Comedy Theatre in San Diego in 1999. She was fortunate to have the opportunity to perform with individuals such as Colin Mochrie, Jeff Davis, and Wayne Brady and continued to perform all around the country, including shows in Los Angeles, San Jose, Portland, and Hawaii. She has extensive experience as a performer and a teacher, having taught improv workshops for both children and adults, as well as in corporate settings for team building. In 2005 she moved back to Missouri, settling in Weston, and has continued to teach and perform improv as opportunities arise.
