This challenging hike features nine peaks in the Catskills, including four bushwhacks. Be prepared to hike in the dark at both the beginning and end—bring headlights and extra batteries. The terrain between Balsam Cap and Cornell is a dense forest of fir trees, so watch out for low-hanging, sharp branches.
