Celebrate with freedom, culture, and Black excellence this Juneteenth, an immersive afternoon of storytelling, soulful cuisine by local chef Mr. Greg Eaton, and thought-provoking dialogue with Brian Knowles. It's also our 4th year of Rohi's Readery!
This one-of-a-kind event honors the legacy of Juneteenth while spotlighting the power of education, food, and literacy as tools of liberation.
✨ 3:00 PM – Liberation Storytime
Kick off the celebration with a dynamic storytelling session for youth and families that lifts up Black history, identity, and imagination. Rooted in freedom and cultural pride, this session will set the tone for the day.
🍽️ 4:00–6:00 PM – Breaking Bread, Building Futures Workshop and Book Launch
Dive deep with celebrated educator and author Brian Knowles as he leads an interactive workshop exploring Afrocentric education, identity, and the ongoing struggle for equity. This special session also marks the major book launch of his newest title, BOLDLY BLACK: Science and Mathematics in Ancient Africa—a transformative work for learners and educators alike. Book signing to follow!
We'll also gather around the table for a delicious dinner prepared by beloved local chef Greg Eaton. While enjoying soulful bites, engage in a powerful community conversation centered on food, freedom, and family traditions that define our liberation journey.
Brian Knowles is a dynamic speaker, writer, researcher, and educator with the distinction of being twice named by Legacy Magazine as one of South Florida's Top Black Educators (2018 and 2021). His research and writings have been featured in the Journal of Literacy Innovation: Rethinking Literacy Instruction and XanEdu Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiatives Blog.
Brian founded Power Builders Curriculum and Pedagogies, LLC - an educational consulting company that supports schools, community organizations, and education-focused nonprofits in creating culturally affirming spaces. This includes, but is not limited to, policy, curriculum, research, professional development, and professional speaking engagements.
Brian has supported schools in his home state of Florida to create environments conducive to all students' academic success. He has designed policies to eliminate systemic barriers and interrupt discriminatory practices that lead to predictable outcomes for some groups of students.
