Grass to Garden - AAARCC Lunch & Learn Series #1

Join the AAARCC (915 5th St) on Thursday, September 4 from noon-1pm for our first Lunch & Learn for Fall 2025. Learn about growing community-based gardens with Karen Mitchell, the Consumer Horticulture Extension Specialist at Purdue University.

This session offers an overview of Purdue Extension's Grass to Garden Signature Program, highlighting key steps for transforming unused green space into a thriving, shared garden. Learn what it takes to build support, plan for long-term success, and grow more than just vegetables - learn how to cultivate a stronger, more connected community.

Karen Mitchell's passion for plants led her to earn degrees in Horticulture and Botany, both from Purdue. She began her career as a County Extension Educator in Tippecanoe County, supporting local horticulture education. Now based on Purdue's campus, she leads statewide Extension programs focused on community gardens and home horticulture, helping gardeners across Indiana grow sustainable landscapes.
