Welcome to the Oakenmist Renaissance Faire, complete with local demonstrations, performances and a marketplace from the time of yore!
We are in a covered, air-conditioned facility – we shall proceed rain or shine! If the weather be nice, some of our activities and vendors may be outdoors.
At the moment, we are planning for martial (fighting) exhibitions, as well as an opportunity for you to engage in combat – in a ring, with a marshal, with rigid foam weapons, full-contact – in addition to FREE hands-on lessons in whip-cracking and using a sling as a weapon (yes, that means you crack a whip and use a sling to hit a target), along with numerous educational troupes (typically called “edutainers”) and period-appropriate denizens – Renaissance period dancing, artisan exhibitors demonstrating skills such as illumination (calligraphy), embroidery and weaving, gameplaying, metalworking, and music.
There are a number of performers scheduled, including those from distant Renaissance events, as well as those from our faire in previous years. We welcome those who have never attended a Renaissance event as well as those who regularly attend events on the Eastern seaboard every year with attractions that differ from what is usually seen. We have a focus on education, local organizations and small businesses that you may not typically see.
We are hosting more than 70 vendors of handmade medieval products, fortunetellers, facepainters, a bakery, a meadery and many others!
Tickets are on sale. $13 per person (prior to the event, $17 at the door), 10 and under are free – but still need a ticket. We want this to be accessible to as many people as possible. We’ll also offer a family or group rate, as well as weekend / family passes and VIP admission. As a single-weekend event, we recognize that inclement weather can have a significant effect on our success, and just one poor result could sink us in the long term; as a result, we’ve chosen to have a mostly indoor event.
