Qualia Dance Collective is excited to return to The Foundry to perform a mixed-bill program, which will include the premiere of a new work choreographed by Fiona Scruggs, as well as works from the company's repertoire including, "Une, Deux, Trois" and "Barefoot Dances."
The new work will explore nuances of human connection amidst challenging experimentation with time and space.
"Une, Deux, Trois" is a solo in three parts set to Erik Satie's three "Gymnopédies." "Une," French for one and in the feminine form with an "e," is an intimate exploration of control, longing, and tension. "Deux" becomes undone, relinquishing the control and tension of the previous work in a cathartic, unkempt release. "Trois" is in development and will premiere at this performance.
"Barefoot Dances," is the ethos of the liminal space between a dream and a scream. Reverie and haunting melodies evoke hazy, yet familiar experiences from our dreamlands. Through evocative and wistful vignettes, we are bound in our mind’s eye to a feeling we can’t quite describe, but all know well.
Qualia Dance Collective seeks to explore the qualities of space, time, and energy as catalysts for movement and art and performs the choreography of Fiona Scruggs. Fiona’s background is in ballet, so her movement is grounded in principles of line and technical precision. The work she creates explores creative narratives of visual art and often possesses a surrealist quality, inviting her audience to envision new worlds. Dialogues with the audience following performances are integral to engaging with our community and bridging access into the artistic process. Our work is poetic and classical, smart and inventive. We aim to awaken the imaginations of everyone we meet.
Qualia Dance Collective has performed at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, 5x5 Dance Festival, The Mount, Chesterwood, Wandering Dance Festival, Choreography on the Edge, Berkshire Busk, and is excited to return to The Foundry.
