Our workshop is a beautiful weekend to celebrate your daughter on the verge of becoming a young woman and deepen your relationship as mother and daughter.
We use games, songs, craft, and stories to tell them about menstruation and other changes at puberty.
You will have the opportunity to talk honestly and deeply with your daughter and to participate in a beautiful honouring ceremony to boost her self-esteem and ‘sing her up’ as a blossoming young woman.
There is always much laughter and fun and the girls often don’t want to come the first day – and then they can’t wait to come on the second day.
Don’t miss this once-in a lifetime opportunity to mark this special one on one time with her!
Research has shown that how a girl experiences her menarche (first period) is indicative of how she relates to her menstrual cycle and her body for life. So it’s a good time to get some things right!
Tribal cultures have celebrated menarche in their daughters since the beginning of time. They know that to do so, will instil in the young women a sense of their bodies as magnificent, as givers of life with a clear purpose and the ability to be recognised and celebrated as strong mothers. How different would our culture be if we recognised and celebrated this in all our daughters? To give her a sense that her body was perfect, to be able to trust it and all its workings as natural and normal? For other women and girls, as well as her mum, to witness her and honour her in that transition?
The workshop will be facilitated by Vicky Barcelona.
Vicky is a psychotherapist and facilitator. She is very passionate about the importance of celebrating the important transitions in life and bringing ceremony and ritual back into our lives. In 2011-2012 Vicky co-designed a mentoring program for young boys and their dads/mentors in the Blue Mountains. Vicky has co-facilitated this program (previously called Let's Talk Growing Up) with Maree Lipschitz in the BM since 2013. She is a single mother of 2 young men and firmly believes that it takes a village to raise a child, hence the importance of celebrating these life transitions in a community setting.
These weekends have been an outstanding success since their inception and they are offered a couple of times a year in the Blue Mountains.
