NCW LEND's first Neurodivergent Fiber Arts Meetup is officially on the calendar!
Join us Monday, July 21st from 4:30 to 6:30 PM in the Lions Club conference room at the Wenatchee Public Library!
Bring your yarn/thread/other medium, your crafting tools, and be ready to parallel play/work as we build community.
Contact us with any questions, and feel free to invite your neurodivergent crafting friends to join in!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
1. Does "neurodivergent" just mean autistic?
Nope! Autistic folks are neurodivergent, but so are people with ADHD, OCD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, anxiety, depression, dyslexia, epilepsy, and many other conditions where the brain “diverges” from what’s considered typical.
2. Do I have to have a formal diagnosis?
No. This is an inclusive space, and self-identification is valid. You are not required to disclose any diagnosis or condition to attend. If you identify as neurodivergent, you are welcome!
3. Will materials be provided?
Not at this time. We ask that crafters bring their own materials. NCW LEND hopes to start collecting fiber arts supplies in the future, but we’re not there yet.
4. I want to attend, but I prefer to stay quiet and not talk while crafting. Can I still attend?
Absolutely! Inclusivity means honoring everyone’s preferred level of interaction. Whether you like to chat while you craft or prefer quiet focus, you are welcome.
5. Is this the only event there will be?
Nope! We’re working on setting up a weekly series—stay tuned for more dates.
6. Will childcare be provided?
Unfortunately, we’re unable to provide childcare at this time.
7. Who is sponsoring this event?
THIS EVENT IS NOT SPONSORED BY NCW LIBRARIES OR WENATCHEE PUBLIC LIBRARY.
It is hosted by the North Central Washington Library for Education on Neurodiversity (NCW LEND), a community-supported lending library offering books and resources by neurodivergent, disabled, and queer authors.
7. Is there anything else I should know?
Yes! This is a queer-affirming, neurodiversity-celebrating space grounded in respect, inclusion, and community care. We welcome people of all backgrounds and identities and ask everyone to engage with kindness and openness. Disrespectful or discriminatory behavior will not be tolerated.
