Puanga: A Wellington Youth Choir Concert

Wellington Youth Choir, in collaboration with Horomona Horo (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Porou, Taranaki), present Puanga, the first concert of our 2025 season.

Named after the star that is recognised by many iwi as the beginning of the new year, Puanga explores the joy, passion, sorrow, and reverence that shapes life here in Aotearoa through the mediums of te reo Māori and taonga pūoro.

The choir is honoured to be collaborating with Horomona Horo, one of Aotearoa’s most esteemed taonga pūoro practitioners. Horo's work with tāonga puoro is imbued with knowledge of these instruments' historic uses in Māori rites of passage, storytelling and daily life, and spans across various genres of music.
