He Maruāpō Huna, He Maruāpō Tūmatarau a Matariki is a masquerade celebration marking 30 years since the original Matariki festivities at Pipitea Marae. Hosted by Ngāti Pōneke, this event honors the legacy of those who revived the Māori New Year through the first modern Matariki celebrations at Pipitea Marae in 1994.
Guests are invited to don masks and join an evening filled with music, storytelling, and performances, celebrating Matariki’s significance in uniting whānau and community. Reflect on the past, revel in the present, and look forward to the future of Matariki together, embracing its themes of remembrance, renewal, and connection to our taiao. This special evening of remembrance and festivity is open to all who wish to experience the warmth and manaakitanga of Ngati Poneke and Pipitea Marae.
