A BCN Wildlife Trust reserve, we will be venturing into Northamptonshire for a change. A large ex-gravel pit, there is a main lake with shallow areas of water fringed with ponds, there are islands and reedbed surrounded by grassland and wet woodland.
There are two Sand Martin banks and views of other hirudines are possible. Black-headed Gulls and Common Terns nest on the islands and rafts. There are lots of warblers in the wooded areas. Reedbeds hold Cetti’s and Sedge Warblers as well as Marsh Harriers. Spoonbills have started to visit as well as Great White Egrets.
