What started as a book written by a man who once wandered through Slab City — a forgotten corner of the desert where the rules don’t apply — has found new life on stage. The author, who lived in Redding and has since passed, left behind a gritty, human story that struck a chord with his friends here in Trinity County.
So what did they do? They turned it into a musical.
Now, Scratched Up takes the spotlight — an original production brought to life by local talent, big heart, and a whole lot of desert dust. At the center of it all is Penny — a down-on-her-luck beauty in a fur coat and a broken heel, trying to outrun her past in a place where no one asks questions.
Local. Raw. Unfiltered. And completely unforgettable.
Don’t miss the world premiere of a musical born right here in our community.
