The James J. Hill Days Parade is back! Join us September 7, 2025 in Wayzata, MN.

About this Event

The James J. Hill Days parade is Sunday, September 7, at 3:00 p.m. and we want YOU to be a part of it. This parade is more than festive units and marching bands... It's a reflection of the Wayzata area community. The parade is a great promotional opportunity for Chamber businesses, local charities, and civic groups of all kinds. Participants in the parade will be seen by thousands of parade-goers. All you need is a little enthusiasm and some creative minds!

The parade registration will remain open until August 15.

  • Parade Check-in: Sunday, September 7, at 1:30 p.m. near the Muni on Southbound Superior Blvd. Check-in closes promptly at 2:30 p.m.
  • Parade Start: 3:00 p.m.
  • Applicants will be notified by e-mail of their lineup information the first week of September.

PARADE RULES & REGULATIONS - Please read and communicate this new information to everyone in your unit

PARADE ROUTE – The parade will be staged along Superior Ave. and Rice Street. The parade will start at the intersection of Lake St. and Superior Ave. and proceed West for 2 blocks. Units will turn right on Walker Ave. and proceed north for 2 blocks and turn right onto Rice Street and disband at Wayzata City Hall (route subject to change).


  1. SAFETY PERSON - Due to the safety of the parade route and narrow layout, the parade will primarily be a vehicles only parade. We will allow up to 3 walkers and 1 safety person. All parade vehicles must provide one safety person to precede the vehicle on the front right side of the vehicle to provide a safe buffer between the crowd and the vehicle.
  2. Each parade application fee covers one UNIT (which is equal to one organization riding in one vehicle. A trailer or float can be included). You can purchase more than one unit.
  3. # of PARTICIPANTS ALLOWED - You are allowed to have as many participants that safely fit within your vehicle and/or trailer/float. 3 walkers and 1 safety person are allowed to hand out candy along the parade route. Parade officials will be strictly enforcing this rule.
  4. HAND OUT CANDY - NO THROWING CANDY. No brochures, stickers, or any type of promotional products may be handed out or thrown. Candy may be handed out by the 3 walkers but not thrown. Any unit caught throwing items during the parade will not be allowed in future James J. Hill Days parades.
  5. KEEP PACE AND DO NOT STOP IN THE ROAD - Our parade route is 2 blocks long. All units must be able to keep up with the pace of the parade. All vehicles must maintain a distance not to exceed 20 feet (1-2 car lengths) between each parade entry and remain in the center of the street. Keep up the pace, no gaps between vehicles. To encourage an efficient and entertaining parade, all units must keep moving forward at all times.
  6. DISPERSAL AREA - Continue moving through dispersal until a parade marshal advises you to stop. The parade end and dispersal area is at Wayzata City Hall. Your cooperation in this busy area will be expected.
  7. All entries must be in good taste and are subject to the approval of the steering and parade committees. If the entry does not meet these criteria, the committees reserve the right to refuse participation.
  8. The James J. Hill Days parade will proceed rain or shine. We request you make the provisions for undesirable weather. There are no refunds for parade registrations and fees.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • There is limited parking in the parade lineup area. Car pooling is encouraged.
  • The Judges stand and announcements will be made at the intersection of Broadway Ave. & Lake Street
  • Food is available for purchase at the intersection of Minnetonka Ave/Lake St.
  • There is a portable restroom available near the parade lineup area.
