ARTIST STATEMENT:
I am a modern alchemist, transforming light, pigment, and plant into visual poetry. In Botanicals Revisited, I bridge centuries, reawakening the 19th-century cyanotype process with the vision of a 21st-century artist. My mountaintop walks yield more than leaves—they offer whispers from the natural world, which I gather, print, and layer into richly evocative works that blur the boundaries between painting, photography, and printmaking.
My process begins without a camera, using sunlight, chemistry, and the serendipity of the wet cyanotype technique. From this elemental base, I add veils of digital pigment, pattern, and color—drawn from my own paintings and photographs—infusing each piece with a depth that feels both contemporary and timeless. The compositions are not only about nature; they are nature remembered, reimagined, and resurrected in vibrant, unexpected hues.
These aren’t merely botanical studies—they are soulful conversations with impermanence and memory. Like pressed flowers in an old book, they hold emotion, story, and the passing of seasons. Large in scale yet deeply intimate, I invite you to stand still, look closer, and lose yourself in the layered beauty of the ephemeral made eternal.
An award-winning artist, author, and longtime mentor for creative souls, I live and work on the Blue Ridge/Appalachian mountain range in Cascade, Maryland, where the view—and the muse—are ever-changing.
