"Wind Energy Design Challenge": In-Person Badger Talk in Wauwatosa, WI

Join us for this free, in-person event on July 21, 2025, at 10:30 AM at the Wauwatosa Public Library. No registration is necessary. Why is wind energy taking off in Wisconsin and around the world? An educator from the Wisconsin Energy Institute at the University of Wisconsin–Madison will be visiting for a hands on class where we’ll learn what’s exciting about wind energy and then put on our engineering hats to design, build, and test small scale wind turbines. No registration is required, but this is a program best for ages 7-12. If your child might need additional assistance, we do ask that you stay in the Firefly Room and engaged.

Presenter Allison Bender is the Outreach Coordinator for the Wisconsin Energy Institute (WEI). She has a background in environmental education and has worked as a naturalist in state parks across Wisconsin and Minnesota. After completing a B.A. in environmental studies at St. Olaf College, she served as an AmeriCorps Member at Whitewater State Park in Minnesota’s Driftless Region. At WEI, Allison coordinates a wide variety of educational programming and works with scientists to translate their research into hands-on activities, lessons, and events for learners of all ages.
