The Red Arrow Division during World War II: Some Waupaca County Perspectives

The Waupaca Historical Society invites the public to a special evening program on Thursday, July 10 at 6 pm at the Holly History and Genealogy Center, highlighting the extraordinary story of Wisconsin’s own Red Arrow Division during World War II.

Author Mark D. Van Ells will present the program, “The Red Arrow Division during World War II: Some Waupaca County Perspectives.” The presentation, based on Van Ells recent book, will delve into the powerful legacy of the 32nd Division, which included many soldiers from Waupaca’s National Guard. Renowned for its fierce combat record, the Red Arrow Division earned its name in World War I and went on to serve with distinction in the Pacific during WWII—logging more days in combat than any other U.S. Army division.

Through letters, memoirs and interviews, Van Ells’ will tell the history of the Red Arrow Division—from training in Louisiana through occupation duty in Japan. Van Ells will also emphasize Red Arrow units from Waupaca County, such as Waupaca’s Antitank Platoon of the 127th Infantry Regiment and Company A of the 107th Quartermasters of Clintonville.
