Day 1: 0730-1700
Day 2: 0800-1500
The program consists of various modes of instruction, including skill stations and interactive in-person. The framework of TNCC is based on the trauma nursing process (TNP), which is emphasized throughout the program. Classroom activities highlight critical concepts presented in manual and online modules to reinforce learning and the trauma nursing process. The skill stations involve applying the TNP to realistic patient scenarios to transfer learning which can be incorporated into nursing practice.
TNCC Provider Manual (included with registration) It is essential that all learners read the TNCC provider manual and complete the online modules and study guide prior to attending the TNCC program. This provides learners with a foundational understanding of the concepts that will be applied to scenario-based classroom activities. Chapter content is organized in a consistent format for ease of learning.
Each chapter will include the following:
• Objectives: Within each chapter, the objectives highlight core concepts and critical information that the learner will complete by the end of the chapter.
• Anatomy and Physiology: Most chapters provide a brief overview of anatomy and physiology for the convenience of the learner.
• Pathophysiology as a Basis for Assessment Findings: Pathophysiologic concepts related to the body’s response and associated assessment findings are highlighted.
• Selected Injuries: Life-threatening and more frequently occurring injuries associated with the particular system are presented.
• Nursing Care: The organization of nursing care is based on the nursing process principles of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation, and ongoing assessment. • Emerging Trends: This section presents evidence-based information and/or research-related concepts or approaches linked to trauma practice. At the time of publication, these concepts may or may not currently be considered or accepted as the standard of care, they are brought to nurses’ attention for discussion.
• Summary and References: Each chapter closes with chapter highlights and a complete list of references. The provider manual also includes an overview of the TNP process to assist learners in preparing for these sessions.
Participants must be an RN (recommended 6 months of bedside experience) and possess a current unrestricted nursing license to receive verification. LPNs and paramedics are eligible to attend all portions of the course except for the written and psychomotor evaluations. For this reason, they do not receive verification, but are awarded contact hours.
Contact Hours
The Emergency Nurses Association will award 19.5 contact hours to participants who complete the entire course. Non-RN health care providers working in the emergency care setting may attend this course; appropriate continuing education hours will be provided.
