About the event

Auditions for Don't Dress for Dinner
Auditions for Don't Dress For Dinner by Marc Camoletti will be held July 21 and 22 at 7pm The Waterloo Library, 31 E. Williams St. Waterloo, NY 13165. Performances will be held September 19-21 and 26-28. For Information call 585-851-7171.
Bernard is planning a romantic weekend with his chic Parisian mistress in his charming converted French farmhouse, while his wife, Jacqueline, is away. He has arranged for a cordon bleu cook to prepare gourmet delights, and has invited his best friend, Robert, along too to provide the alibi. It's foolproof; what could possibly go wrong? Well... suppose Robert turns up not realizing quite why he has been invited. Suppose Robert and Jacqueline are secret lovers, and that Jacqueline decides NOT to leave for the weekend. Suppose the cook has to pretend to be the mistress and the mistress can't cook. Suppose everyone's alibi gets confused with everyone else's. An evening of hilarious confusion ensues as Bernard and Robert improvise at breakneck speed.

Bernard: Jacqueline's husband, planning a romantic weekend with his mistress, Suzanne, at their French farmhouse. He's a handsome businessman, flirtatious, self-assured, and a country gentleman. Bernard is described as "so self-sabotaging you wonder if he wants to be caught".

Jacqueline: Bernard's wife, who is having a secret affair with Robert, Bernard's best friend. She decides to stay home for the weekend when she learns Robert will be visiting. Jacqueline is portrayed as lovely, assertive, romantic, intelligent, and a beautiful modern woman. One review mentions her "sly, quiet knowing" and how she infuses playing the "dupe" with a sense of awareness.

Robert: Bernard's best friend, who is also Jacqueline's lover. He is invited by Bernard to provide an alibi for his rendezvous with Suzanne. Robert is described as handsome and reserved, but ultimately, a scoundrel. The play portrays him as incredibly incredulous at the unfolding farcical events.

Suzanne: Bernard's mistress, a chic Parisian fashion model. She is described as having a great body, being stylish, and easily flustered. One review describes her as "buxom, bubble-headed"

Suzette: The cook hired by Bernard to prepare gourmet meals for his planned romantic weekend. She is mistakenly believed to be Robert's mistress in the ensuing chaos. Suzette is described as friendly, funny, working class, and someone who transforms into a "swan beneath the duckling exterior". The play notes her wit and her ability to quickly master the tricks of Bernard and Robert.

Georges: Suzette's husband, who appears briefly in the play. He is described as big, strong, and protective of Suzette.
