TURNmusic presents violist Elizabeth Reid and pianist Alison Bruce Cerutti in an evening of new and classic works at The Phoenix Gallery & Music Hall in Waterbury. The concert highlights Vermont composers' recent compositions alongside Brahms's beloved work.
The program features two world premieres: Dervishes by Erik Nielsen for viola and piano, and a new solo piano work, Cat Mewsic by Michael Close. Also featured are excerpts from a new sonata for viola and piano by Elizabeth Reid, composed in 2025 and workshopped with pianist Adam Tendler in her August composer residency at TURNmusic.
The concert's second half features the Sonata in E-flat major, Op. 120 No. 2 by Johannes Brahms, a staple of the viola and piano repertoire.
Reid and Cerutti, longtime collaborators, are known for their thoughtful, dynamic programming and strong musical partnership. This performance continues their exploration of contemporary works alongside classical repertoire, focusing on composers living and working in Vermont and Canada.
