Susitna River Coalitiongo is hosting Alaska Safe Riders to present a critical Backcountry Safety Presentation with a special emphasis on Ice Travel Safety. This free, life-saving event is designed for every riders, from novice to expert.
We'll move beyond the basics and dive deep into the practical knowledge that keeps you safe. You will learn:
How to "Read the Ice:" Identify visual clues that signal weak or dangerous ice, from pressure ridges to high hazard areas.
The Gear That Gets You Out: We'll demonstrate the essential, non-negotiable safety gear for ice travel, including ice picks, throw ropes, and flotation coats, and show you exactly how they can save you.
The Step-by-Step Survival Plan: What do you do in the first 60 seconds after falling through the ice? We'll walk through the proven, life-saving techniques for self-rescue and buddy-rescue.
Building a Safety Mindset: Learn how to plan your route, travel in a group effectively, and make smart decisions to avoid hazards altogether.
