West Africa to Brazil! Samba, Shekere & Conga Workshop - Basics to Carnaval

Feel and learn how drumming connects us all! West African roots to Brazilian carnaval, the drum call and we respond! Shekere and Conga are terrific drums to begin your percussion journey. Elaine Smith from Philly Phonk comes to DC especiallyto lead the shekere lesson. Both originating in West Africa and both versatile for playing in various setting and exploring music. Learn the basic sounds, technique, posture and helpful drills plus a fun rhythm you can play.

Then turn up the volume to carnaval decibels! Dana Monteiro will teach samba drumming basics, technique, plus a special music presentation🤗 a carnaval song: Liberdade Liberdade by Rio Samba School Imperatriz Leopoldinese
