How to Hem Pants Class at The Ivy Green Creative

Welcome to the How to Hem Pants class at The Ivy Green Creative! Join us at 145 S Main St for a fun and informative in-person event. Bring your own machine, and we'll get you started with a clear cut, reliable process that makes neat hems at the right length.

Whether you're a beginner or looking to brush up on your skills, this class is perfect for you as long as you know the basics of using your sewing machine.

Our experienced instructor will guide you every step of the way. The class will cover:

• how to pin pants at the "right-for-you" length
• how to mark the pants so you can cut in the right place and iron up the hem easily
• what those extra presser feet that came with your machine are for, and whether you need them
• several types of stitches you'll see on factory-made hems, and how to affordably imitate them on your own machine
• a few different ways to hem jeans, leggings, knit pants, and dress slacks
• how to remove old stitching easily when you're hemming "just an inch"
• what to do if pants are almost long enough but there's barely enough fabric for a good hem

If time allows, we'll help you pin up a pair of your own pants and get you started on a nice new, professional-looking hem.

You'll want to bring:

• your own sewing machine
• a spool of thread, fresh sharp needle, and pre-wound bobbin
• any attachments or special presser feet that came with your machine
• a pair of pants you'd like to work on or ask questions about (optional)
• a sense of humor (optional but helpful!)
