The College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability and Environmental Sciences (CAUSES) is offering a hybrid composting certificate program, Thursday, July 17, 2025 through Saturday, July 26, 2025.
This course will help participants understand the importance of composting at home, in the community, and in city recycling stations; best practices in composting; and its contribution to good agricultural practices, including the reduction of food waste and the mitigation of climate change.

Session 1, July 17: Virtual Lecture, 4:00 to 6:30 pm
Session 2, July 19: In-person Hands-on Experience, 9 am to 2 pm*
Session 3, July 24: Virtual Lecture, 4:00 to 6:30 pm
Session 4, July 26: In-person Hands-on Experience, 9 am to 2 pm*

CREDENTIAL EARNED: This is a non-credit bearing course. A certificate will be issued to participants who successful complete all four training sessions.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Anyone who is interested in learning to compost.
INSTRUCTOR: Dr. Emmanuel D'Silva is an Agriculture and Environmental Specialist, writer, and lecturer. He has worked for over three decades in Asia, Africa, and Latin America on agriculture, the environment, renewable energy, and climate change projects, mainly with the World Bank. His current focus is on composting, converting waste into energy, regenerative agriculture, and ecological restoration.
