Flirty Face & Expressive Hands Workshop with Sophianna

The two elements that elevate a dancer from “good” to “captivating” are how they express emotion through their face and through their hands. These two components are what gives an excellent dancer their unique and recognizable signature style. They are how they draw the audience in and command the stage. In this workshop, we will integrate theatrical acting practices to build confidence and comfort in using our face as more than just an extension of our dance, but actually as an initiating force in our movement. We will explore how altering the speed, direction, and weight of hands alone, affects the overall feeling of the dancer’s body. We will perform simple combinations while adding various facial expressions and hand patterns, making small changes that completely alter the effect of a movement. The goal is to unlock authentic expression and access a wider variety of what is possible in your personal dance. We will experiment with a range of emotionally fueled music and moods so you can take home your own toolkit to experiment with your favorite and most resonant styles and songs. This workshop will be simple in technique but will require a different kind of challenge- emotional vulnerability. It is open to all levels but recommended for experienced dancers, intermediate and above.
