Considering Matthew Shepard

140 talented choral singers from across the U.S. , accompanied by professional chamber orchestra, perform this moving and timely musical response to LGBTQ hate crimes. 50% of ticket proceeds will be donated to the Matthew Shepard Foundation. Responding to the hate crime M**der of young Matthew Shepard, acclaimed conductor and composer Craig Hella Johnson created a compassionate and ultimately hopeful musical response. This fusion oratorio incorporates a variety of musical styles into a unified whole with settings of soulful texts by poets including Hildegard of Bingen, Lesléa Newman, Rumi, as well as passages from Matt’s personal journal, newspaper reports, and more. Our concert will take place at the National Cathedral, Matthew’s final resting place.

Dr. Jeffrey Benson, Director of Choral Activities at San José State University, will be our musical guide for this powerful journey. He also serves as Artistic Director of Peninsula Cantare, based in Palo Alto, CA. The Washington Post hails his choirs for singing “with an exquisite blend, subtlety of phrasing, confident musicianship and fully supported tone.”

Seating is general admission by section. Note that the Side Aisle seats (green) are obstructed view. Balcony seats provide a side view of the stage area.
