Trayee along with Marathi Mandali, Poland and Women's Worldwide Forum In Poland, brings to you yet another unique workshop! This time we visit the Folk form from Maharashtra, Lavani ❤️💃
Lavani, a popular folk dance of Maharashtra, originated in the 18th and 19th centuries, during the period of the Peshwa rule. It gained further prominence when patrons like Maratha Lords and Kings supported Lavani dancers. The dance form was initially performed by Dhangar or Shepherd communities in Solapur, Maharashtra. Lavani, derived from the word "lavanya" meaning "beauty" in Marathi, is known for its energetic and sensual grace.
Lavani performances often feature women dancers in colorful, nine-yard-long sarees, accompanied by the beats of dholak and other instruments. The dance is known for its energetic movements and the use of film songs, both in Hindi and Marathi.

About the instructor-
Nivedita Badve is a Bharatanatyam/Lavani/Bollywood dancer residing in Pune, Maharashtra. She has completed her masters in Dance from Lalit Kala Kendra, Pune University. She currently trains under her Guru Smita Mahajan in the Guru-Shishya tradition and also owns her own Dance Institute.
She has been awarded the title 'Nritya Shiromani' by the Orissa Government.
Through her institute NADA BRAHMA NRITYALAYA at Pune, India she trains students in Lavani, Bollywood and folk dance styles. She has also established herself internationally in Australia & some European countries.
She has performed in numerous programs for the Embassies of Slovenia, Bulgaria & Czech Republic. She has also held several Television and Radio interviews in European regional channels and worked with a dance school in Sofia. She has also got the privilege to work with the University of Sofia and the Indology Department there.
We are very happy to have her visiting Poland for the first time and sharing her knowledge with us ❤️
