„Istnieją dwa rodzaje prawd: prawdy rozumu i prawdy faktu. Prawdy rozumu są konieczne, a ich przeciwieństwo jest niemożliwe; prawdy faktu są przypadkowe, a ich przeciwieństwo jest możliwe. Gdy istnieje fakt przypadkowy, nie można znaleźć jego prawdy przez samo rozważenie pojęć, trzeba odwołać się do zasady racji dostatecznej. Zasada ta mówi, że nic nie dzieje się bez racji, czyli bez wystarczającej przyczyny tego, dlaczego tak jest, a nie inaczej.”
