Prerequisites for Participants
To ensure successful training in advanced thoracic surgery, participants should meet the following criteria:
✅ Solid foundation in surgical techniques and procedures for rabbits and other lagomorphs
✅ Proficiency in intubation techniques and familiarity with anesthesia and perioperative management specific to rabbits
✅ Comfort in handling rabbits and managing their unique physiological and anesthetic challenges
✅ This course is designed for veterinarians with prior experience in exotic animal surgery looking to refine their skills in advanced thoracic procedures
Objectives of the Workshop
By the end of this session, participants will:
✔ Master thoracic anatomy in rabbits – Develop a detailed understanding of thymus, lungs, and intercostal nerves to enhance surgical precision
✔ Apply local anesthesia techniques – Learn intercostal nerve blocks and intrathoracic infiltration for improved pain control
✔ Perform advanced thoracic surgeries – Gain expertise in thymectomy and partial/total lung lobectomy
✔ Execute proper thoracic drain placement – Understand correct techniques for insertion, securing, and postoperative management
✔ Manage surgical risks and complications – Identify and address pneumothorax, bleeding, and pain using evidence-based medicine
✔ Integrate anesthesia and multimodal analgesia – Implement advanced anesthetic protocols tailored to rabbit physiology
This wet lab is designed to enhance surgical confidence and technical precision, enabling participants to manage complex thoracic procedures with improved patient outcomes.
Duration
🕘 Full day: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM☕ Two coffee breaks (15 minutes each)🍽 One lunch break (1 hour)
