WOOLY WEEKEND PROGRAM
Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th July, Flagstaff Hill, Warrnambool, Vic. Free entry for locals.
11am – 3pm Blade Shearing Demonstrations: Village Green
Terry & Luke Rowbottom will demonstrate the traditional trade of blade shearing sheep. They will be happy to have a chat and get the kids involved in their fun and interactive ‘shearing’ activity.
Carding and Combing Demonstrations: Sailmakers Loft
Once the fleece is off the sheep see how the fibres are carded or combed and learn about the difference between the two processes.
Yarn Spinning: Sailmakers Loft
See how the prepared wool fibres are made into yarn using a traditional treadle spinning wheel.
Using the Yarn: Sailmakers Loft
Witness local craftspeople demonstrating the ways in which they use wool and yarn for knitting, sock making and felting.
11:30pm Wet Wool Felting Workshop – Felt Pictures
Enjoy a demonstration of wet felting techniques and then apply them to making your own piece of felt art to take home
$5 per person – book and pay here or at reception on the day
12:30pm Woolly Tales: Mechanics Institute
Our village storyteller is sure to delight you with his entertaining interpretations of children’s stories about sheep and wool.
2:00pm Wet Wool Felting Workshop – Felted Pencils
Enjoy a demonstration of three-dimensional wet felting techniques and then apply them to making your own funky felted pencils to take home.
$5 per person – book and pay here or at reception on the day
Market Stalls: Many of the exhibiting craftspeople will have handmade woollen goods available for purchase, including apparel, accessories, and décor. Please bring cash.

Warm up with a hearty lunch at the Stella Maris Tea Rooms, where you’ll find a delicious menu featuring comforting soups, toasted sandwiches, and hot pies as well as freshly brewed coffee and other winter-warming beverages.

Hear historical stories of the Warrnambool Garrison and experience the sound and spectacle of the 80 pound cannon firing.
