Guided Walking Tour - Cobleskill Battlefield

Guided walking tour of an important regional Revolutionary War battle site. On May 30, 1778, Mohawk War Captain Joseph Brant routed a small force of local militia and Massachusetts Continentals, and then burned half the village of Cobus K*ll. It was the first of what became known as the "Border Wars" of New York. A fully immersive experience of a frontier-style battle of the 18th century, including weapons, military tactics, leadership, experience and backgrounds of the participants, and skill assessments that help tell the story of the battle as it unfolded, why it was fought, the impact and lasting impression on the region. Also discussed are the Warner family, the Cobus K*ll and New Dorlach settlements, and the chain reaction of events that followed. In addition, a summary of the Haviland Site, a prehistoric work camp dating back some 8,400 years, and what it tells us about the surrounding topography of that time. Tour ends with short drive to likely battle ambush site. $10 for adults, $5 for students aged 9-17 years.
