ABOUT
Golden Guitar nominee Abbie Ferris wrapped up a blockbuster year with the release of her new EP ‘You Don’t Live Here Anymore’, out now via Potts Entertainment / MGM.
The small town girl with big dreams has had a whirlwind year - flying back and forth between Australia and Nashville, performing at CMC Rocks QLD, writing with Music City hitmakers and releasing two dynamite singles. At the same time, she was dealing with the breakdown of a seven-year relationship and the myriad of emotions that resulted. The highs and lows, lessons learned and strength found, are all documented on the new release.
From the sexual tension in a toxic relationship on ‘Shut Up and Kiss Me’, to chasing her dreams in Nashville in ‘Bright Lights of Tennessee’, hitting the town to get her groove back on ‘No You Didn’t’, finding strength and peace on ‘Guilt Don’t Live Here Anymore’, rejecting f-boys on the sassy ‘That Ain’t You’ and on the searing heartrending closing track ‘The Last Song’, putting the ghosts of the past to rest.
“This is the most personal and heartfelt music I’ve ever made” Abbie says. “The title has so many different meanings. It’s about the end of a relationship with someone I literally lived with for years, but also it’s talking to myself. I’ve changed and grown so much in this last year, and the journey I’ve been on is in all these songs”.
All six songs were written in Nashville, including cowrites with Danielle Blakey (Nate Smith) and Troy Kemp (McAlister Kemp). The EP was produced by Abbie’s longtime collaborator Michael Carpenter, and features Lainey Wilson band-member Sav Madigan on fiddle and mandolin.
From her home town of Mallala, South Australia (population 600), to Music City USA and the biggest festival stages in Australia, Abbie’s musical journey has taken her around the world, driven by relentless hard work, passion for country music and determination to make her dreams come true and follow in the footsteps of her idols - Shania, Taylor, Lainey and more.
“I want to take my music everywhere, and show the world that a small town South Australian girl can grow up to be a woman who makes a big impact on people’s hearts in places I couldn’t have imagined when I was a kid. My parents raised me to trust my heart and do what feels right, and when I connect with people through a song - whether it’s in a co-write, in the studio, on a festival stage - it’s like I’m back riding a horse in a paddock where all you see is horizon, and everything else in life melts away. That’s what I’m always chasing with my music”.
