About the event

John Wesley - Founder of the Methodist Church Presentation
The William Tennent House Association cordially invites you to a presentation on John Wesley by Dave Barto on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 7:00 PM at the Neshaminy-Warwick Presbyterian Church. (This is a reschedule from the June 21st cancellation.)

David Barto will bring to life the Reverend John Wesley (1703 to 1791), founder of the Methodist Church, first in England, then in early America when he visited Savannah, Georgia. He will share his faith in God, especially including recounting a dramatic childhood event when he almost died in a house fire at the age of 5, and later when he feared for his life as his ship crossed the Atlantic Ocean, heading for America. Mr. Barto has visited John Wesley's birthplace in Epworth, England, and has "followed" the life trail of the minister throughout England, and has been to Savannah, Georgia.

Admission is $10 per person ($12 at the door). Registration is available online by going to https://app.theauxilia.com/pay/88d2e1f9-bf1e-83fa-bd8f-78f6c47bfb10. Registration can also be made by check payable to William Tennent House Association and mailed to P.O. Box 2572, Warminster, PA 18974 along with your name, contact information and number of seats. Refreshments will be served.

David Barto is a retired English teacher of 41 years. He taught high school for 25 years for the Pennsbury School District in Pennsylvania, then taught at UNLV (University Nevada at Las Vegas) and CSN (College of Southern Nevada) for 16 years. He is a graduate of Pennsbury High School. From Grove City College, he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Communicative Arts, and holds two Master Degrees, one in Education and one in Arts, both from the College of New Jersey.

In 1972, David assumed the identity of one of the authors being studied in a 10th grade class, Henry David Thoreau, and the result was profound and encouraging. He shared his strategy with others and this led to 12 summers portraying Thoreau at Walden Pond State Reservation in Thoreau's native Concord, Massachusetts, then later at Cape Cod National Seashore. This included being part of television and radio specials, and being featured in local and regional newspapers, including a feature article in the August 10, 1999 New York Times. To date, Mr. Barto has done over 1,000 one-man shows throughout the United States and in England. He concentrates on bringing Henry David Thoreau and the Reverend John Wesley to audiences. For his efforts, David has received many honors, including regularly appearing as a "Best of Boston" selection in the Boston Globe newspaper for his unique one-man Thoreau portrayal. He was the recipient of the Roland Wells Robbins Merit Award for his contribution to New England historical understanding, and, most recently, was given the 2017 Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, demonstrating "longevity and unwavering excellence in (his) chosen field."
