There's an earthy grounding to the way that James Ladd delivers his acoustic soul-jazz songs that gives them a timeless sound, reflecting echoes of country blues, contemporary R'n'B and old-time swampy stuff from New Orleans.

James Ladd’s thoughtful songs reflect a deep love of the blues, New Orleans jazz and classic soul while his guitar playing conceals a shrewdly-judged cleverness.

Infused with smoky backroom jazz and blues singer/songwriter James Ladd’s voice is a natural fit to his nicely balanced mix of classic folk-blues and original tunes. He’s a nifty guitar player too and this acoustic trio with Jon Short’s bass and John Blakeley on the drums gives him the welcome chance to show those skills off a little.

James is part of the Open Source Music network in Bristol. He is a unique guitarist who creates an eclectic and original blend of funk, jazz, soul and folk and has been heavily active within the Southwest music scene, collaborating with a large number of other artists including Cut Collective, Sheelanagig and No Go Stop.
