WAPPSTOCK MISSION STATEMENT:
Wappstock was created back in August 2011, and since then it has just grown bigger and better every year. The committee members are Joe Bancroft, Roy Ward, Alan Buttry, Paula Emery Gowen and Melanie Bancroft.
A little history of how Wappstock came to be. It all started with a few Wappapello Lake musicians (Roy, Joe, Alan) who came up with a plan to have an annual jam session reunion for the people who hung out back in the 70’s & 80’s at the lake. Then those same great musical minds figured out a way we could all help enrich and give back to the community, and rather than musicians being paid to jam, instead they would donate their time and the proceeds would go to help local boy/girl scout troops.
Since the inception of Wappstock the following camps have received donations: Camp Latonka Girl Scouts, American Heritage Girls, Camp Allen, Scout troops from Doniphan, Wappapello, Puxico and Poplar Bluff, including local church camps.
A countless number of kids have benefited from Wappstock proceeds to attend various camps since 2011.
Summer camp gets kids off the couch and into the outdoors, to teach them about nature, first aid, how to swim, survival skills, it promotes independence, self-esteem, teaches teamwork, ethics, leaderships skills, self-respect, courage, self-discipline, resiliency, coping skills, and citizenship skills that will effect their adult lives.
Going to camp also takes children out of their comfort zone and pushes them to try new things, as well as explore their already established interests. and helps kids develop life long skills.
