Non-Russian Russophone Literature: How to Preserve Your Voice While Writing in an Imposed First Language

Armenian-born writer Narine Abgaryan Ludwigsburg, Germany), Belarusian-born writer Tatsiana Zamirovskaya (currently based in Brooklyn, NY), and Georgian-born writer Tinatin Mzhavanadze (Tbilisi, Georgia), authors of critically acclaimed and award-winning Russophone books published in Russia, will discuss what it means to write in Russian - an imposed "native" language they never chose - while preserving their unique identities and cultural specificity. They will talk about how to write about subjects vital to their communities and histories, despite the complexities of language, colonialism and power.

Event followed by reception.
