About the event

Beyond Bereavement: Counselling Skills for Complex & Disenfranchised Grief
A one-day training on grief and loss, equipping you with practical skills to support people through complex and disenfranchised grief.

About this Event

  • Date: Monday 13 October, 2025
  • Venue: The Blinco Room at The Walsall Hub, 1902 Green Lane, Birmingham, WS2 8HE
  • Time: 10:00am – 3:00pm

About the Training

Grief is never simple, and not all losses are openly recognised or supported. This one-day workshop offers practical counselling skills to help you support people experiencing bereavement, complex grief, and disenfranchised losses such as miscarriage, suicide, overdose, or the loss of a former partner.

Led by Clare Spiers from People Boost, who specialises in grief support, the day combines theory with real-world application to build your confidence in working with grief in its many forms.

This training is not just for counselling professionals, but for anyone who works with or cares for people facing grief—community workers, health and social care staff, faith leaders, and volunteers.

What You’ll Learn
  • Foundations of grief counselling: models and approaches (Worden’s Tasks, Dual Process Model, Continuing Bonds)
  • How to recognise and support disenfranchised grief
  • Cultural and faith perspectives on grief, mourning, and rituals
  • Understanding grief within homeless and vulnerable populations
  • Practical skills to respond with compassion and confidence

Who Should Attend?
  • Counsellors, trainee therapists, and health professionals
  • Community and charity workers
  • Faith and pastoral leaders
  • Educators and frontline staff
  • Anyone supporting people through loss
