The Monologue: Selection and Strategy:
Dive deep into the world of auditioning for theater in this monologue workshop for all experience levels. We’ll be answering the question “What makes a good monologue?” Learn how to select a monologue, techniques to cultivate it, and tips and tricks of the trade that will make you a standout in your next open call! Intended for performers of all experience levels, whether you’re just dipping your toe into the theater world, or you’re an old pro looking to spruce up your portfolio. Theater practitioner Witt Tarantino will guide you through the woes and fears of the solo performance, no prep required!
Monologue Diagnostics: Workshop and Feedback:
Build upon the lessons learned in The Monologue: Selection and Strategy, or come in with a brand new piece you’re just dying to have someone else’s eye on! In this diagnostic, students will have the opportunity to get direct, live feedback on their audition pieces. Gain practice performing in front of strangers, receiving and applying audition panel-esque feedback, and learn to find ease as soon as you walk through the door of your next audition room. Students are encouraged to bring copies of their headshots and resumes for additional evaluation if wanted. To get the fullest out of this experience, workshop goers should come prepared with a memorized and worked audition piece that they intend to use in an audition context.
About the teacher:
Witt Tarantino is a working actor and theater maker who got his start at the CTC. He has starred in independent short films like Last Night, featured as a finalist in the London Short Film Fest, appeared on the small screen in shows like the History Channel’s The Food That Built America, and collaborated with theater companies in New York City, Dublin, and London. He is a classically trained actor, holding a Bachelor’s in Classical Acting from the Lir Academy at Trinity College Dublin, and a foundation diploma from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Witt is the Artistic Director of the theater company Brilliant at Breakfast, who’s debut original play Lobster Bisque enjoyed a critically acclaimed, sold out run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and headlined the Best of the Fringe Festival in London. Tarantino has been a teaching artist for many years now, offering workshops and private lessons. He is excited to return to the Contemporary Theater Company, a place where he learned so much as a budding young performer, to pass on some of the things he has learned in his time away from the Ocean State.
