Les Duels de John Egan

On Saturday, July 30, 1838, John Egan, known for his conciliatory nature, lost patience with Bytown's conservative lawyer, Andrew Powell, who claimed that one of his close friends was not a gentleman. The two men engaged in a pistol duel in Bytown. Shots were exchanged, narrowly missing both opponents, who escaped unharmed. Andrew Powell nevertheless conceded victory and apologized for his remarks.

To mark this historic event, the Steampunk Association of the Province of Quebec will perform John Egan's Duels, a successful performance at the 2022 Old Aylmer Festival, this time as part of the reopening of the John Egan Mill. ( https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61575191864177)

Visitors will be invited throughout the day to relive this 19th-century way of settling disputes between gentlemen in a... civilized manner!

We will also be showcasing steampunk at our booth and promoting the Salon Steampunk de la Capitale.
