Red Earth Radio will be returning to @burningseedaustralia once again this year, and this year we'll be hosting our own theme camp!
It's a long-standing tradition for many burn events around the world to host their own radio station, serving as a central hub for essential information and diverse content during the event. Members of our theme camp will be well placed to join other radio theme camps at burns around the world, opening up endless opportunities:
- At Burning Man, it's BMIR (Burning Man Information Radio, 94.5 FM) -
https://burningman.org/event/preparation/black-rock-city-guide/infrastructure/radio/
- At Burning Seed we have RERFM (Red Earth Radio, 92.3 FM) -
https://www.facebook.com/RedEarthRadioFM
- Around the world, there's the Shouting Fire (Global Burner Radio Network) -
https://shoutingfire.com/
If you:
- ever wanted to experience what it’s like to be on the radio, or
- enjoy silly social banter, or
- have a collection of music you feel would brighten up people’s day, or
- have some great life stories or burn experiences to share, or
- feel up for the challenge of recruiting punters for interviews, or
- are interested in giving educational talks, or
- have audio production skills you fancy using to create hilarious fake ads and stings, or
- have audio/tech wizardry skills you’d like to put to good use, or
- would love to help people out on the paddock stay informed and ensure they get the most out of their experience, or
- you're working on a small project with friends (like a roaming cart or performance art) but you'd like to be part of a larger crew
… then the Red Earth Radio theme camp may be the home you’re looking for - we’re actively on the hunt for new recruits, and always have space available for you to host your very own segment, whether or not you're part of our camp, everyone's welcome!
The Red Earth Radio theme-camp will be contributing to the paddock in a number of ways in 2025 (but we need your support to make it a reality!):
- Radio Studio: site office for broadcasting interviews
- Listening Lounge: a comfy lounge with drinks & snacks
- DJ Mixer: for guests to play live DJ sets
- Art Project: a decorated interview booth where anyone can appear live on the air
- Roaming Interviews: live from out on the paddock at your event!
RERFM offers a great opportunity to engage with the principles of the event -
https://burningman.org/about/10-principles/ - with a deep sense of radical inclusion, gifting, radical self-expression, communal effort, participation and immediacy.
Now, we understand you may be a little nervous about jumping live on the air, but fear not, there are many ways that you can help contribute to the camp without jumping behind a mic, including helping with the build & pack-down, signage, radio scheduling, food & drinks, socials & outreach, decor, and more. We're also considering - based upon interest - playing a role in creating a home for those that have a small group of friends that are working on small project together (like a roaming cart or performance art), but would like to share some infrastructure with others and take advantage of economies of scale.
That said, you don't need any prior experience to jump live on the air with us, we're more than happy to show you the ropes! We'd love to have you join us on the air sharing your contributions to the community - with everything from music and video, to educational workshops/lectures, poetry, comedy, interviews, promos, story-telling, conversation and debate. We're keen on anything your fellow Red Earth Citizens may like to listen to, with bonus points if it's funny, entertaining, educational, interesting, challenging, stupid, local, or frankly some other adjective you can spin in its favour.
Aand, you don't even need to appear live on the air to have your content included in our broadcast - we'll also be accepting pre-recorded segments from camp-members and all citizens of Red Earth. Plus you're welcome to participate in multiple capacities, or in multiple slots - we'll be distributing separate forms to coordinate the rosters and schedules throughout April/May.
Not only will you get the opportunity to connect with a huge number of burners, hear some incredible stories, express your creativity, and share a laugh, as a member of our theme camp you'll gain access to discounted directed ticket sales as a reward for your efforts, and you'll be well placed to join a suite of burner radio stations worldwide!

Even if you're already part of another theme camp, anyone's welcome to join us live on the air - we're constantly on the lookout for hosts & guests to pop in for a segment, volunteers to help report from the field and spread the word, and DJs to drop in for a mix.
